Junta troops and the Arakan Army (AA) clashed near the Bawdhigon border guard police outpost in Arakan State’s Maungdaw Township on Friday morning.

Border Guard Police Battalion No. 5 provided artillery support for junta troops, said a resident of Bawdhigon Village.

“The fighting raged through noon. It was fierce,” he said.

The AA has been fighting the border guard police outpost since November 28. The fighting has forced more than 1,000 residents from at least four villages in the area to flee their homes.

“It has almost been a month since we fled our village. There is no one left at the village. We have difficulties finding food,” said a resident of Bawdhigone Village.

Fighting was also reported in Arakan State’s Pauktaw and Kyaukphyu townships on Friday.

Since renewed fighting began on November 13, the AA said it had seized control of 140 junta positions in Arakan State as of December 10.
