Coalition troops headed by the Karen National Defence Organisation (KNDO) reportedly occupied a police outpost on the Myanmar-Thai border in Kayin State early Monday morning.

A source close to the KNDO, a military branch of the Karen National Union (KNU), said the attack on the Waw Lay Myaing police outpost in Myawaddy Township began before dawn.

“The KNDO began attacking the police outpost at around 4 a.m. on June 13. The KNDO joint force occupied the police outpost at about 6 a.m., after nearly two hours of fighting,” the source explained.

Two policemen were killed and two others, including the head of the outpost, were detained, according to a KNDO source, who added that some small arms and other light weapons were confiscated.

Another KNDO source said two members of the KNDO coalition were wounded in an artillery barrage by junta troops following the attack on the police outpost.

“Junta troops on the Waw Lay tactical hill fired at least 10 artillery shells after the KNDO coalition forces occupied the police outpost. Two KNDO members are said to have been injured by the junta shelling,” the KNDO source told DMG.

The attack on the police outpost was reportedly led by Bo Salone, who resigned from the Democratic Karen Benevolent Army (DKBA) at the end of April and joined the KNDO.
