A coalition force led by the Arakan Army (AA) seized two forward outposts of Artillery Battalion No. 344 in Yekyi Township, Ayeyarwady Region, on June 1, with fighting continuing near the junta artillery regiment, according to military sources.

During the operation near Kyaungshar Village on the edge of the Arakan mountain range, the Arakan Army and its allied forces also captured several prisoners of war (POWs), a local military source said.

"Resistance forces led by the Arakan Army captured two junta outposts on the edge of the Arakan mountain range and took several prisoners. The seized positions were forward security outposts of Artillery Battalion No. 344. Clashes between the two sides are still ongoing near the battalion," the source said.

Intense fighting between regime forces and the Arakan Army-led coalition has been taking place near Artillery Battalion No. 344 since May. According to sources, wounded junta soldiers have been receiving treatment at civilian hospitals in Yekyi Township.

The regime has continued sending reinforcements to nine villages along the border of Yekyi and Thabaung townships while attempting to strengthen its military presence in Yekyi.

Residents said clashes between regime forces and Arakan Army-led resistance forces are occurring across Yekyi, Laymyethna and Thabaung townships, where the regime has been carrying out military operations and artillery attacks.

"Clashes are taking place daily in Yekyi, Laymyethna and Thabaung townships. The regime conducts military operations and fires heavy artillery every day. It appears to be trying to launch offensives toward areas it has lost in Ayeyarwady Region and Arakan State," a resident of Laymyethna Township said.

On the Ayeyarwady front, the regime has primarily relied on people's militia groups as reinforcements and deployed them to frontline positions, resulting in casualties and injuries among militia members, according to local sources.

The Arakan Army and allied forces have been conducting military operations in Yekyi, Pathein, Laymyethna, Thabaung and Ingapu townships since early 2025.

Military observers say the regime is continuing its offensives from Ayeyarwady Region in an effort to regain territory lost in Arakan State.
