The Arakkha Army (AA) intercepted a convoy of 26 cargo trucks loaded with food supplies and weapons intended for junta troops in Arakan State on Tuesday, according to sources.
Heading to Arakan State from Magway Region, the convoy was intercepted on the Ann-Padan road section on Tuesday morning.
“The trucks were carrying heavy guns, RPGs [rocket-propelled grenades] and arms hidden under food packages. Some of the drivers were junta soldiers. Other drivers were civilians who said they were abducted to drive for the regime,” the source told DMG.
The Ann-Padan road links Magway Region and Arakan State, and has been used by the regime for military purposes. The AA has blockaded the road since April 2.
The seized weapons and food supplies were destined for junta battalions suffering heavy attacks and the Myanmar military’s Western Command, said sources.
According to those sources, there were clashes on the road section between the Western Command headquarters and an AA checkpoint on the Ann-Padan road around 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
“There were no junta soldiers on board. Those trucks were only carrying food supplies. When those trucks entered Ann Township, junta warplanes were flying over them,” said an Ann resident.
The AA has besieged Ann Township, attempting to cut off supplies sent to the junta battalion there.
“Junta soldiers at the front line can’t keep fighting without ammunition and food. The regime will do whatever it takes to supply them. Otherwise, they will starve and surrender,” said one Arakanese politician.
The AA has seized the Sui Chaung hilltop tactical command base in Ann Township, and is continuing its attacks on other regime positions in the township.
