Two displaced women were killed and two others injured by airstrikes, suicide drone attacks and heavy weapons fire from a Myanmar Navy warship in Kyaukphyu Township, Arakan State, according to local sources.
At around midnight on January 17, the military regime launched two airstrikes, four suicide drone strikes and fired at least 10 artillery shells from a Myanmar Navy warship at Kyaukkalay Village. The attacks reportedly killed nine cattle and injured several residents.
The two victims were identified as Daw Ma San Shwe from Pyarte Village and Daw Khin San Oo from Mintettaung Village, both of whom had been displaced by the fighting. DMG is still investigating details of the two injured civilians.
“Aircraft, drones and Myanmar Navy warships were all firing at us. Both people and cattle were killed,” said a man from nearby Zinchaung Village.
The Zinchaung Youth Charity Association provided K20 million in funeral assistance and is also covering medical treatment for the injured, according to locals.
Kyaukkalay Village is located about 10 miles from the current fighting zone, and residents said the military deliberately targeted civilian areas.
“The area where the fighting is taking place and the area being attacked by the military are different. We are being attacked in various ways,” another Zinchaung Village resident told DMG.
Earlier, on January 14, a Myanmar Navy warship fired heavy weapons at Thaphanchaung Village in Kyaukphyu Township, killing one man and one woman.
According to DMG data, since fighting broke out in Kyaukphyu Township in February 2025, more than 100 civilians have been killed or injured by airstrikes, artillery and small-arms fire by the military regime.
