A 13-year-old boy was critically injured on Wednesday after the Myanmar military junta carried out fresh airstrikes in Buthidaung Township, an area under the administrative control of the Arakan Army.
The victim, identified as Maung Saw Tu Lar from Wachila Village, suffered a fractured left femur after junta aircraft, including jet fighters and Y-12 aircraft, attacked the area at around 10:00 AM.
"We are still verifying reports of additional casualties, but initial information confirms that a Muslim child was injured in the strike," a local resident said.
The junta dropped more than 10 heavy bombs around the former Military Operations Command No. 15 (MOC 15) base area during the attack.
Residents reported explosions in residential areas of Thabyuchaung and Ywadaw villages, as well as near a football field in Wachila Village.
The injured child was taken to a local medical facility for emergency treatment. Residents accused the junta of repeatedly targeting civilian areas through air attacks.
"As they lose territory, junta forces are carrying out these attacks against civilians," a local woman said. "These indiscriminate bombings require international attention."
The Arakan Army captured the strategic MOC 15 base on May 18, 2024. Since then, the junta has repeatedly conducted airstrikes on the former base area, including three jet fighter attacks recorded on February 6, 2026.
The latest strike follows other aerial attacks across Arakan State, including an airstrike near the former Ethnic Youth Development School in Maungdaw on June 24 that wounded two women, and a June 17 bombardment in Kyauktaw that killed 10 civilians and injured 16 others in Lanmadaw Village and nearby wards.
Military monitoring groups continue to report frequent junta air operations targeting civilian populated areas, including markets, schools, and healthcare facilities across Arakan State.
