The Arakan Army (AA) reportedly seized the entire Kyeinchaung border guard police outpost in northern Maungdaw Township, Arakan State, in a pre-dawn raid on Friday.
“The Arakha Army (AA) took control of the Kyeinchaung border guard police outpost in Maungdaw Township early this morning. The military regiments in Buthidaung and Kyee Kan Pyin Village fired mortar shells into the BGF outpost till 9 a.m.,” said a reliable source.
The AA has been carrying out an offensive attack on the Kyeinchaung Border Guard Force outpost in Maungdaw Township since February 9. Fierce clashes have been reported in Maungdaw on a near-daily basis since March as the military has responded to the AA’s attacks with artillery attacks and airstrikes.
Parts of the Kyeinchaung border guard police outpost have been partially seized by the AA since April 5 and the entire BGF outpost was seized by the ethnic armed group on April 12.
“One of my friends informed me that the AA seized the Kyeinchaung border guard police outpost this morning,” said a local resident in Maungdaw.
The Kyeinchaung border guard police outpost is a crucial junta camp in northern Maungdaw Township. Some junta soldiers reportedly managed to escape from the police outpost.
The AA has so far seized several junta bases and border guard police outposts such as Donenyo, Taungpyo Letwe, Aungthabyay, Yanaungmyin and Tamanthar in northern Maungdaw Township.
Fighting has been raging in Arakan State for nearly five months. The AA has seized large swaths of Rathedaung, Ponnagyun, Kyauktaw, Mrauk-U, Minbya, Pauktaw, Myebon and Ramree townships, as well as Paletwa Township in neighbouring Chin State.
