Civilian casualties continued to rise on Friday as the regime bombed Lashio, held by the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) in northern Shan State.
Two civilians were killed, six others were injured and several buildings were destroyed by the regime airstrike on Lashio at around 4 a.m. on September 27, the Kokang ethnic armed group said in a statement.
A junta air assault on the northern Shan State capital on September 25 destroyed some buildings within the compound of the Technological University and a high school. A junta airstrike on Lashio killed one woman and wounded 15 others on September 14.
"The brutal behaviour of the regime, which ignores the lives and property of the people and tramples on their human rights, will definitely waste all the efforts of those working to promote the peace process," the MNDAA said in the statement.
The military's Northeastern Command fell to the MNDAA on August 3.
The MNDAA statement added that the military regime's continued airstrikes on Lashio are hampering reconstruction efforts.
The MNDAA has so far seized control of at least 10 towns in northern Shan State and is carrying out rehabilitation works.
Earlier this month, the MNDAA stated that it would cease offensive attacks and work to resolve conflicts through political dialogue in a move widely interpreted as having resulted from Chinese pressure.
