The NUG released a statement on May 21, expressing concerns about alleged human rights abuses against Muslim by both regime and AA forces in Buthidaung fighting.

At least three civilians were killed and nine others were injured in a junta attack on Hsinkhaung Village, part of Arakan State’s Thandwe Township, on June 3.

The regime’s human rights violations took several forms, including airstrikes, shellings, gunfire, arson attacks, arbitrary arrests and use of civilians as human shields, the statement added.

Environmentalists say Arakan State has suffered from climate change and other negative effects in recent years due to weak environmental protection efforts.

The majority of victims were killed by artillery strikes, bombing raids, landmine explosions or were raped by junta forces, said the BWU’s statement on June 1.

Fighting between the military and AA in Thandwe Township is moving closer to the town, with airlines cancelling flights in the leadup to the closure of the airport.

The regime has reportedly threatened that it will cut off financial assistance provided by international organisations if the Muslim IDPs refuse to join its military training.

Myanmar’s military regime has denied slaughtering dozens of civilians in Byaing Phyu Village in Arakan State’s Sittwe Township, calling the alleged massacre a complete fabrication.

The AA has been stepping up offensive attacks on junta troops to gain control of the town, with the regime conducting joint army, navy and air force operations to defend against the AA onslaught.

Most of the civilian casualties were reported in Sittwe Township, with 53 people massacred in Byaine Phyu Village, according to a tally compiled by DMG from May 1 to 31.

The AA took control of the two BGF outposts near the Angumaw-Maungdaw road at about 5 a.m. on June 2.

The AA has clashed with the military near Got Village, about two miles from Ngapali Town, since 4 p.m. on Sunday and the fighting continued to escalate on Monday morning.

Ko Khin Win Maung aka Ko Gambarri, 34, and the other three were taken by the regime soldiers from a home in Yangon’s Hlaingthayar Township.

Two Arakanese women from TaungU Village in Arakan State’s Mrauk-U Township, who were arrested by the regime at Sittwe Airport on May 29, have not yet been released, according to sources close to the detainees.
