Myanmar’s military regime dropped bombs near Kyauksepyin Village, part of Arakan State’s Mrauk-U Township, at least three times at about 6 a.m. on Friday, said local residents.
“The regime dropped bombs on the hills near Kyauksepyin Village, part of Arakan State’s MraukU Township at least three times this morning. All villagers are afraid of the regime airstrikes and dare not go outside,” said one local man.
DMG continues to investigate details on civilian casualties caused by the junta airstrikes on positions near Kyauksepyin Village, which is home to ethnic Mro people.
Junta jet fighters flew to Kyauktaw, Ponnagyun and Mrauk-U townships on Thursday night and carried out an airstrike on positions near Kyauksepyin Village the next morning.
The regime often carries out air attacks on areas held by the Arakha Army (AA) in Arakan State.
“The regime’s air attacks on civilian communities are a very despicable act. The regime should consider such actions,” said a social activist in Mrauk-U.
The AA has so far seized nine townships in Arakan State and neighbouring Chin State since renewed hostilities began in November.
Clashes are reported in Taungup and Thandwe townships, and the AA is reportedly ramping up attacks on junta positions in Ann, Buthidaung and Maungdaw townships.
