Employees of banks in Arakan State are concerned for their safety after armed robbers recently made off with about K180 million (US$124,000) from a Kanbawza (KBZ) Bank branch in downtown Sittwe.

A total of six Arakan National Party (ANP) members in Taungup Township, Arakan State, have been arrested and charged under Myanmar’s Counter-Terrorism Law in recent weeks. 

Three villagers were injured and two others were detained by the Tatmadaw from June 8-10 after gunfire was heard in Apaukwa village, Kyauktaw Township, villagers said.
