At least 20 people, including healthcare workers and patients, were injured after the regime carried out an airstrike on a rural hospital in Welgyidaunt Village, part of Arakan State’s Kyauktaw Township, on Wednesday morning, the Arakkha Army (AA) said in a statement.
Five of the wounded sustained severe injuries and they are currently receiving medical treatment. Much of the hospital was destroyed by the junta airstrike.
The military regime, which has faced defeat after military defeat in Arakan State, is increasingly targeting residential areas and civilian infrastructure including hospitals and markets, massacring civilians, the AA has said. Civilian casualties have risen steadily in recent months.
Junta jet fighters reportedly also dropped bombs on Kyarnyoinn and Lanmadaw villages in Kyauktaw Township on the morning of May 15.
“No casualties were reported, but many people including patients and hospital employees were wounded in the junta airstrike [in Welgyidaunt Village]. A horse near the hospital was also killed,” said a resident of Welgyidaunt Village.
As the regime is carrying out aerial attacks on towns and villages in Arakan State, as well as hospitals, people are having difficulty accessing safe medical treatment.
A junta air assault on a rural hospital in Minphu Village, Minbya Township, on February 27 destroyed the entire hospital and injured many civilians.
“Civilians injured by the bombing are being treated in hospitals. The regime’s bombardment of those areas again is like killing the people twice,” said a social activist in Arakan State.
