A child from Kanpyin Thazi Village, part of Arakan State's Maungdaw Township, was seriously injured by a sniper bullet fired by Border Guard Police Battalion No. 5 personnel in Maungdaw on Monday.
The 5-year-old sustained a bullet wound to his abdomen at around 4 p.m. on October 28.
"The child was walking in front of his home when he was hit by a bullet. He is currently receiving medical treatment," said a source.
Kanpyin Thazi Village is located about two miles from the base of Border Guard Police Battalion No. 5, the last standing junta battalion in besieged Maungdaw.
Civilian casualties continue to rise in villages near Border Guard Police Battalion No. 5 due to regime artillery attacks and airstrikes.
Hundreds of locals and displaced people from Ywathayar, Thayargon, 4th-Mile, Magyigon and Kanpyin Thazi villages are fleeing to safer locations in fear of junta airstrikes and artillery attacks.
"We cannot sleep at night and have to hide ourselves in the jungle. We are afraid of the dangers of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) and wild elephants, in addition to the junta airstrikes," said a displaced person in Maungdaw.
A Myanmar regime air attack on Pharwatchaung Village, Maungdaw Township, killed five civilians and wounded at least 10 others on October 21.
