55 civilian casualties reported due to airstrikes on AA-held Thandwe

Civilian casualties continue to rise due to junta airstrikes since the Arakkha Army (AA) seized control of Thandwe in Arakan State.
A teenage boy was injured in a junta air attack on Thandwe on Friday morning, and an abbot was injured in a regime air assault on Khamaungtone Village in Thandwe Township at around 4:30 p.m. on October 25.
"A junta jet fighter dropped a bomb on the village yesterday evening, wounding an abbot of the village monastery," said a local resident.
The AA took control of Thandwe Township on September 5. At least 55 civilian casualties have been reported in Thandwe Township due to junta airstrikes since that time, according to a DMG tally.
Child casualties are increasing in Arakan State due to the aerial bombardment of the regime, and children are suffering both psychologically and physically.
"The regime carries out airstrikes on Thandwe without any fighting in the area. Locals displaced by fighting in Thandwe have returned home, but the returnees feel insecure due to the junta airstrikes," said another resident of Thandwe.
On September 26, at least 14 civilians including children were killed and 25 others were injured in a junta airstrike on Thandwe.
An internally displaced person (IDP) was killed and another was injured in a junta airstrike on Nyaungchayhtauk Village in Thandwe Township on October 1.
Since fighting between the military regime and AA resumed in Arakan State in November of last year, the ethnic armed group has seized 10 towns in Arakan State and Paletwa in neighbouring Chin State.
