Four civilians including two teenage girls were killed and four others were injured after Myanmar’s military regime bombed Thinchikai Village, part of Arakan State’s Taungup Township, on Tuesday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Ma Than Than Aye Khin, 13, Ma Daisy Myint, Ma Shwe Yi Win Wah, 25, and Ko Yin Ko, 28.
The injured are Ma Nilar Htwe, 25, Ko Zin Ko Oo, 33, U Tin Aye, 73, and U Ba Chit, 76, who sustained severe injuries to their heads and bodies.
“Four civilians were killed and four others were wounded in a junta air assault at around 10:30 a.m. on November 19. The [conditions of the] injured are considered life-threatening and they are receiving medical treatment,” said a source.
Some school buildings were damaged by the regime air attack on Tuesday.
Fighting between the military and Arakkha Army (AA) is escalating in Taungup Township and civilian casualties continue to rise due to junta airstrikes and artillery attacks.
The AA has been attacking the junta battalions and military camps in Taungup Township since the end of October, and fighting between the military and AA is fierce as the ethnic armed group presses its advantage in the battle for control of Taungup.
“The regime is conducting airstrikes in Arakan State on a daily basis, so the people feel insecure. The regime’s attacks on the people are absurd,” said U Saw Min, a resident of Arakan State.
