Eight internally displaced people (IDPs) including three teenagers were reportedly injured in a junta air assault on Nanchaung Village, part of Arakan State's Thandwe Township, on Wednesday morning.
A junta jet fighter carried out aerial bombardments on the village twice on November 27, hitting a sub-power station and homes in the village.
"One bomb dropped by the junta jet fighter fell in the compound of a sub-power station. Another bomb dropped by the junta jet fighter landed and exploded in the village, wounding eight IDPs. Three IDPs are in critical conditions and they are receiving medical treatment," said a local resident.
The injured have been identified as Maung Khant Paing, 17, Ma Ei Myint Myat Phyo, 17, and Daw Nge Ma Yi, 50, from Latha Ward in Thandwe; Daw Khin Mar Win, 71, Ko Aung Khant Kyaw, 24, and U Maung Yoe Thein, 58, from Jeittaw Ward; and U Kyaw Lin Thu, 40, and Ma Aye Thandar Htwe, 17, from Nanchaung Village.
A teenage boy was killed and three people were injured in a junta air assault on Thit Ngot To Village in Thandwe Township on November 25.
"The military is still causing a lot of suffering to the people with its airstrikes. The military regime, which is losing the war, is targeting civilians and attacking them in a reckless manner," said a human rights activist in Arakan State.
The Arakkha Army (AA) seized control of Thandwe on September 5, but civilian casualties continue to rise due to ongoing regime airstrikes and artillery attacks.
At least 140 civilian casualties have been reported in Thandwe Township due to junta airstrikes since the latest fighting between military and AA forces began in November of last year, according to a DMG tally.
