Seven civilians including two children were killed and five others were injured in a junta air assault on Jaikauk Village, part of Arakan State's Gwa Township, on Wednesday.
Ma Thae Thae, 9, Ma Yun Wati Hlaing, 15, Daw Khin Thet Mu, 60, U Hsan Hlaing, 65, Ko Yay Chan, 28, U Bando, 54, and U Moe Nyo, 50, were killed in the junta air attack on Jaikauk Village on November 13.
The injured have been identified as U Tin Win, Maung Maung Oo, U Tun Tun Naing, U Nu and another man whose name was not immediately known.
"A junta jet fighter dropped bombs on the village at around 10 a.m. on November 13. Among the deceased are two children. Some people who sustained severe injuries in the regime airstrike died while receiving medical treatment," said a source.
Also on Wednesday, a local resident was killed and a young woman was wounded after an artillery shell fired by the military fell and exploded in Jaikauk Village.
More than 600 civilians have been killed and over 1,000 others injured in Arakan State by junta air and artillery attacks, raids, and explosions of landmines and unexploded ordnance since the latest fighting broke out between the Myanmar military and Arakkha Army (AA) just over one year ago, according to a DMG tally.
"The regime started targeting civilians. The regime's destruction of buildings, roads and bridges that are not related to the military seems to prove that it has lost the war," said a local woman in Arakan State.
Jaikauk Village has more than 400 homes. Junta soldiers retreated to Satthwar Village from Jaikauk Village after the AA clashed with the military near the village on November 13.
Junta soldiers blew up a bridge linking Jaikauk Village with Satthwar Village and withdrew from the village on Friday morning.
The AA reported on November 13 that 28 bridges in Arakan State were destroyed over the past year.
Fighting between the military and AA is escalating in Gwa Township, with the regime sending reinforcements to Gwa-based Light Infantry Battalion Nos. 562 and 563.
