The chair of the Arakan National Party (ANP) in Taungup Township’s Maei town, U Myo Lwin aka Maung Kae, was arrested by the Tatmadaw in the early hours of June 9, family members said.

The families of 18 villagers taken by the Tatmadaw from Tinma village in Kyauktaw Township, Arakan State, are increasingly concerned for their well-being as relatives remain largely without information about the detainees’ status. 

Residents of Dar Lat Chaung village-tract in Arakan State’s Ann Township are said to be facing difficulties because the Tatmadaw has reportedly banned them from transporting rice into the area.

A total of 13 people were charged in Arakan State last month under Counter-Terrorism Law provisions, for which some could face up to life in prison if found guilty, according to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners.

People who have had close contact with coronavirus “Case No. 234” from Maungdaw Township, Arakan State, will not be placed under facility quarantine, Maungdaw district hospital superintendent Dr. Kyaw Maung Maung Thein told DMG.

A COVID-19 patient in Thandwe Township, Arakan State, tested negative for the disease last week and verged on being considered a recovered case only to test positive again three days later, said the superintendent of the Thandwe district hospital.
