Tens of thousands of civilians displaced by fighting in Arakan State’s Ann Township need emergency relief supplies, the Humanitarian and Development Coordination Office (HDCO) of the Arakkha Army (AA) reported on Friday.
Renewed fighting broke out between the regime and the AA in Ann in April before peaking this month.
Those displaced need food supplies, shelter, healthcare services, pots and pans, personal hygiene products, sanitary pads, blankets, warm clothes and nutritional assistance for women and children, according to the HDCO.
Some displaced people have to live in makeshift tents and urgently need shelter.
A total of 13 civilians died at the hands of the regime from November 11 to December 5, and 36 others were injured, the HDCO reported.
Family members of the victims need assistance, it said.
The AA captured the Western Command headquarters in Ann Township on Friday at noon, gaining complete control over Ann Township. Deputy Commander of Western Command Brigadier-General Thaung Tun and regional chief of staff Brig-Gen Kyaw Kyaw Than were captured alive, according to AA spokesman U Khaing Thukha.
The AA has captured 13 of 17 townships in Arakan State plus Paletwa Township in neighbouring Chin State.
