Junta soldiers from Ann Town, which hosts the Myanmar military's Western Command headquarters, continue to surrender or flee amid an offensive by the Arakkha Army (AA).
AA-allied People's Defense Forces (PDFs) announced Wednesday that they had captured a major and 11 other junta soldiers fleeing from Ann.
On November 23, the Student Armed Force attacked junta soldiers fleeing Ann, killing two junta soldiers and capturing 14 others.
An observer monitoring the fighting in Arakan State said: "The deputy commander of Western Command has fled since the fighting broke out in Ann. The morale of junta soldiers there has declined since. The AA has seized many battalions in Ann, and is currently attacking the Western Command. Junta troops have been in chaos there."
The regime has been sending reinforcements by air and road, but anti-regime groups are ambushing junta reinforcements sent by road.
On November 21, the People's Revolutionary Alliance-Magway (PRA-Magway) attacked a convoy of junta reinforcements heading to Ann, killing nine junta soldiers and wounding several others.
"The revolutionary forces control the route from Arakan to the Magwe border, making it hard for the regime to send reinforcements by road. The regime can only rely on airlifting reinforcements," said a source from the battleground.
Anti-regime groups have captured at least 30 junta soldiers who have fled from Ann. They say the prisoners of war are being properly cared for, including providing medical treatment as needed.
The AA has seized more than 10 battalions in Ann, as well as control over more than half of Arakan State's 17 townships, and Paletwa Township in neighbouring Chin State.
