Nine junta soldiers were killed and approximately 10 others were wounded during an ambush by the People's Revolution Alliance (PRA-Magway) in Ngaphe Township, Magway Region, on Wednesday.

A 40-strong military contingent consisting of junta soldiers from the No. 905 Artillery Operations Command and military-trained conscripts were ambushed by members of PRA-Magway about 1 kilometre east of Gotgyi Village in Ngaphe Township as the junta column was on its way to Ann Township in Arakan State.

The fighting lasted for about 15 minutes, with nine junta soldiers including a sergeant killed at the scene and an estimated 10 others injured.

"Control of the Ann-Padan road linking Magway Region with Arakan State is a precursor to the military objective set by PRA-Magway. PRA-Magway will develop a wide range of operations," said the Magway Region-based anti-regime force.

"There are a few junta battalions and military camps in Ngaphe Township," said Zin Yaw, a captain of the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM). "The regime relies on the military-trained Pyu Saw Htee militiamen. There is only an Air Defence Force and a Radar Station based in Padan. The military has no control over the area since it was so often ambushed by resistance groups."

In an earlier statement, PRA-Magway said anti-regime forces attacked two junta outposts on the Ann-Padan road, killing several junta soldiers on November 5.

"The Ann-Padan road has already been seized by PRA-Magway, the Asho Chin Defence Force (ACDF) and People's Defence Force Battalion No. 2 (Minbu). This is the reason why junta troops are often ambushed on the Ann-Padan Road," said a military analyst.

The ACDF and People's Defence Force Battalion No. 2 (Minbu) ambushed a junta convoy returning from Ann Township after transporting food on October 28, killing 10 junta soldiers and wounding several others.

The regime is currently using aeroplanes and helicopters to send reinforcements and supplies to Ann Township, where fighting between the Myanmar military and Arakkha Army (AA) is intensifying.
