Junta court sentences Daw Aung San Suu Kyi to three more years in prison

A junta court sentenced the country’s detained former State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi to three more years in prison on Friday over alleged fraud in the 2020 general election, bringing her cumulative prison sentences since being arrested in February 2021 to 20 years so far, with more charges still pending.

Fighting continues in Maungdaw, Paletwa townships

Clashes have continued for about a month between the Myanmar military and the Arakan Army (AA) in Arakan State’s Maungdaw Township and neighbouring Chin State’s Paletwa Township, with the first hostilities exchanged in early August and military tensions running high across other parts of Arakan State as well, AA spokesman U Khaing Thukha said.
