Issuing a higher denomination note of 20,000 kyats will have impacts on basic foodstuffs and business, said business owners.

Most betel plantations were destroyed in Ponnagyun, Kyauktaw and Pauktaw, the primary betel-growing townships in Arakan State.

“Gold has not been quoted in the Yangon market so far. Previously, it was quoted around 11:30 a.m. We are not doing business so far,”

Clinics that were damaged by the storm have yet to be repaired, and still can’t afford to restock medicines and medical equipment as donations have declined, according to operators.

The CBM announcement that it would start issuing banknotes denominated at 20,000 kyats came Sunday morning.

“If we convert the donations into US dollars, it is just around US$19 million. The United Nations estimated that US$333 million will be needed for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation is impossible without internet assistance,” said the ISP-Myanmar’s report.

The Angumaw Jetty is mainly used by locals from Maungdaw, Buthidaung, Rathedaung and Sittwe townships.

Businesses that sell either goods or services online are required to register under the regulation.

There were 206 cases of dengue fever reported in Kyaukphyu Township, followed by Sittwe with 170. Most dengue fever cases were children under the age of 15.

Humanitarians say the restrictions imposed by the junta in Arakan State have made it more difficult for storm-affected populations, who rely heavily on international aid, to recover.

They have been forced to make makeshift roofs with tarpaulin sheets, and are facing difficulties amid the rainy season.
