The Arakan Army provided 70 bags of rice and the military council supplied nine sacks of rice to flood-hit Myatanzaung IDP camp in Mrauk-U on August 10.

The cost of direct damages to buildings, infrastructure and agriculture from Cyclone Mocha in Myanmar’s Arakan and Chin states and Sagaing, Magwe and Mandalay regions is estimated at US$2.24 billion, the World Bank said in a report.

Two people drowned and two people went missing in Arakan State in the three days from August 5-7 due to continuous rains that brought rising tides in rivers and creeks, according to local people.

“The cattle were gathered on a small island, but all cattle were swept away by floodwaters. Some cattle were found alive. Now the water has receded,” said U Saw Than, the administrator of Layhnyintaung Village.

The bodies of 11 more Muslim victims of a boat capsize on Monday off the coast of Arakan State were recovered on Wednesday, bringing the total reported death toll to 13, with 34 people still missing. 

All the boat services along the Sittwe-Kyaukphyu-Ramree-Taungup route have also been suspended since Tuesday due to heavy rain accompanied by floods and strong winds.
